WHAT AFTER WE LEAVE – Vullnet Jakupi , one day screening
April 14, 2022
Koncepti:
This workshop is in collaboration with the project ” In Our Hands ” community-based project, which is part of the Prishtina Biennale. Based on anecdotes from people who used to live in Stresdka hamlet, some of whom still do: The School, located in the heart of Sharr Mounting where no one knew about it, is now deserted and abandoned, & quot; haunted & quot; by the noises of little children running around like they did when the school was operational. From the 16th through the 20th centuries, seven hamlets had only one school where they sent their children to absorb knowledge: Stresdka, a school without a name today that no one remembers.
During the Yugoslav period, from 1918 to 1992, the school in Sredska village was made up of seven Serbian and Bosnian settlements. Because the number of children in those seven households was minimal, and the school had a capacity of hundreds of thousands, they forced children from Pllanje village to attend Stredska School, where they had to walk for lengthy periods during the summer and winter from one village to the other. They replaced the school bells with an Orthodox Church bell in the same yard during this time.
“Art is the truth, and this statement was tremendously encouraging to me as a young activist and artist who is lobbying locations like Sredska to reveal the untold tale since I was a child. Video is my strongest medium. It appeals to me since it allows me to visualize my thoughts while also allowing others to participate in the story”.
